LIFE RESCUE INCLUDING ACTIVE ASSOCIATION LIFE

With almost 1,000,000 members and sponsors, the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) is the largest voluntary water rescue organisation in the world. The local group in Wolfsburg is responsible for monitoring the Allersee lake. It was founded in 1950 and today has over 900 members. The members watch over bathers, water sports enthusiasts and visitors to major events in the Allerpark. They also provide first aid for minor and major injuries. Since 2007, the Wolfsburg local group has also been active in disaster control for the city and the DLRG state association of Lower Saxony. But that's not all!

The volunteers teach children how to swim, train lifeguards and teach first aid. Outside of training and emergency services, activities for young and old round off the diverse life of the organisation. For example, children can take part in numerous activities in the clubs that have nothing to do with swimming. These include craft afternoons or joint excursions. Working with the youngest members of the DLRG is generally a high priority. For example, the helpers visit kindergartens and explain swimming rules in an exciting and entertaining way. Their appearances make it clear that the DLRG members enjoy their work, the team spirit in the clubs is good and anyone who wants to join in is welcome to do so.

Due to its particularly high safety standards for bathers, the DLRG awarded the Allersee the "Lifeguarded Beach" certificate in 2009. The award is the result of an assessment and risk analysis of the Allersee by the DLRG and the "International Saving Federation of Europe" and makes it clear to guests that they can swim safely here. This made Wolfsburg's Allersee the first certified inland bathing lake in Germany.
